Brewing Cacao-Belize- Xxe'Toonil Maya (2016)
Xxe'Toonil Maya (Shay-Tune-Eel My-a)- Means "Ancient Maya" in the Mayan Kekchi language. These beans are processed the ancient Maya way for their drinking chocolate- The same way they have been doing it for over 3,000 years, and are stilled used today among the villages for their family and friends.
We are extremely happy to be able to share these rare beans with you! On our journey through Belize we were fortunate enough to befriend some cacao farmers in a Maya village in the Toledo district of Belize. This has enabled us to direct source these beans, ensuring that the farmers are truly being paid a fair price, and that the beans are authentically processed the ancient Maya way.
These beans have a very earthy, mellow, non-astringent flavor with hints of coffee or black tea in the taste.
Brew it just like coffee and enjoy hot or cold. You can add milk or cream and your favorite flavorings, or drink just straight. It's the hot drinking chocolate without any added sugar!
